The RAE Systems MiniRAE 3000 handheld photoionization detector (PID) is used for volatile organic compound (VOC) detection. The VOC monitor has an extended range of 0 to 15,000 ppm making it an ideal VOC detector for applications from industrial hygiene to leak and hazmat detection. The MiniRAE 3000 is perfect for screening soil for contaminants. The humidity compensation feature cuts down on inaccurate results due to moisture in the sample or atmosphere. The MiniRAE 3000 has data logging capability and logs information such as concentration (ppm), time weighted average (TWA), average, short term exposure limit (STEL), and more.
PIDs work by using an ultraviolet (UV) lamp of a specific electron volt (eV) energy and an ionization chamber. Compounds that pass through the chamber are ionized by the photons generated by the UV energy. The current produced by the ions are measured by the sensor on the instrument and converted into a ppm reading. The compound can only be measured if the strength of the lamp is great enough to remove an electron from the compound (ionization potential). The standard lamp in the MiniRAE 3000 is 10.6 eV. Enviro-Equipment offers rental options for the MiniRAE 3000 with a 10.6 eV or 11.7 eV lamp.
