Remediation Groundwater Treatment Equipment Applications

Home » Applications » Remediation Groundwater Treatment

Groundwater treatment can be defined as the extraction, filtration and then discharge of contaminated groundwater.

There are several ways to extract contaminated groundwater. A pump and treat system is a common way which uses pneumatic or electric submersible total fluids pumps to pump the water out of the ground. Dual Phase Extraction (DPE) uses vacuum enhanced extraction to remove contaminated groundwater and vapor as well. Using active or passive skimmers is a way to remove only free product, resulting in less liquid to treat.

Once the contaminated groundwater is extracted, it must be treated.  When free product is present it is best to use an oil water separator to remove it.  After the free product is addressed the contaminated groundwater can be sent to an air stripper. Air strippers, depending on the number of trays, concentrations and type of contaminates and the air to water ratio can exceed 99% efficiency in removing VOCs. However, some contaminates are not easily remove with an air stripper and liquid phase carbon is used to polish any remaining contaminates that the air stripper was unable to remove.

It’s always a good idea to have bag filter housings in line to keep dirt and debris from getting into any groundwater treatment equipment. Dirt and debris can foul oil water separators, air strippers and liquid phase carbon.
